Trade : Panels blocked over Chinese TRQs, Canadian aircraft subsidies (PRIV)

A panel request by the United States to examine China's administration of its tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) for wheat, short- and medium-grain rice, long grain rice, and corn was blocked by China at a meeting of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on 31 August.

Trade : Impasse deepens over AB selection process, US comes under criticism (PRIV)

The continued impasse over the launching of the process for the selection of new Appellate Body (AB) members to replace the two AB members whose terms have either expired, or will expire soon has deepened with the United States saying it was not in a position to agree to launch the process until its concerns over the continued service of former AB members are addressed.

Latin America : Alliance to the rescue of 33 million rural poor (PRIV)

"There are 33 million rural dwellers in Latin America who are still living in extreme poverty and can't afford a good diet, clothes or education, and we are not going to help them move out of poverty if we use the same strategies that worked 20 years ago," FAO regional representative Julio Berdegue told IPS.
