Trade : DG Azevedo ambivalent on US trade war threats, AB blockage (PRIV)

The World Trade Organization Director-General, Roberto Azevedo, said on Thursday that the escalating thr eats of a trade war between the United States and China are not factored into it s "positive" forecast of 4.4% growth in global merchandise trade in volume te rms this year as compared to around 4.7% last year.

World merchandise trade growth is expected to remain strong this year and in 2019, but this outlook could be compromised by escalating trade tensions (notably between the United States and China), th e World Trade Organisation (WTO) has cautioned.
