World merchandise trade in volume terms shrank by 3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020, the World Trade Organization has reported.

Many developing countries have expressed sharp concerns over the barriers imposed by the WTO's TRIPS Agreement on affordable access to vaccines and therapeutics that are being currently developed for combating the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the likely emergence of so-called "vaccine nationalism".
