TWO PERCENT VOLUME INCREASES IN 1983.

GENEVA, APRIL 25 (IFDA) – Previewing the GATT annual report to be published shortly, GATT Director-General Arthur Dunkel said in Chicago, that even with this growth in 1983, world trade would have just recovered to its 1980 level.-

But the rate of growth had been much faster in the second half of 1983, and still seemed to be increasing.-

Even if there was no further acceleration, and trade stabilised at its current level, 1984 would show a four or five percent increase over 1983.-

There was good reason to expect better performance than that, since economic growth in the Industrial world, and notably in Europe, would be substantially faster in 1984 than in 1983, Dunkel added.-
